Meghalaya Itinerary – Must visit places & things to do

Day 1: Guwahati to Shillong

Start your journey from Guwahati to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. It is a beautiful hill station located at an altitude of 1496 meters above sea level. The drive from Guwahati to Shillong is about 100 km and takes around 3 hours. On the way, you can visit the Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani Lake, which is a popular tourist spot.

Once you reach Shillong, check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day exploring the city. You can visit the Don Bosco Museum, Lady Hydari Park, Ward’s Lake, and Elephant Falls.

Day 2: Shillong Sightseeing

Start your day with a visit to the Mawphlang Sacred Forest. This sacred forest is home to many rare species of plants and animals. After that, you can visit the Shillong Peak which offers stunning views of the city and its surroundings. You can also visit the Mawlynnong Village which is known as the cleanest village in Asia.

In the evening, you can explore the local markets of Shillong and buy some souvenirs for your friends and family back home.

Day 3: Cherrapunji Sightseeing

Today, you will be visiting Cherrapunji which is located about 60 km from Shillong. Cherrapunji is known for its beautiful waterfalls and caves. You can visit the Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Cave, Seven Sisters Falls, and Dainthlen Falls. You can also visit the Mawsmai Limestone Caves which are one of the longest caves in India.

Day 4: Mawlynnong Village Sightseeing

Today you will be visiting the Mawlynnong Village which is known as the cleanest village in Asia. Day 5: Dawki Sightseeing

Today you will be visiting Dawki which is located about 80 km from Cherrapunji. Dawki is known for its crystal clear waters of Umngot River which makes it a popular tourist spot. You can also visit the Living Root Bridge at Riwai Village which is made from rubber trees and is used as a bridge over rivers and streams.

Day 6: Jowai Sightseeing

Today you will be visiting Jowai which is located about 70 km from Dawki. Jowai is known for its beautiful lakes such as Thadlaskein Lake and Lalong Park. You can also visit the Nartiang Monoliths which are a group of monoliths carved out of stones by ancient tribes in Meghalaya.

Day 7: Tura Sightseeing

Today you will be visiting Tura which is located about 80 km from Jowai. Tura is known for its beautiful waterfalls such as Ganol Waterfall and Rongbang Dare Waterfall. You can also visit Siju Cave which is one of the longest caves in India and has many interesting rock formations inside it.

Day 8: Balpakram National Park Sightseeing

Today you will be visiting Balpakram National Park which is located about 90 km from Tura. Balpakram National Park is home to many rare species of animals such as tigers, leopards, elephants, wild boars, etc. You can also visit the Balpakram Waterfalls which offer stunning views of the park and its surroundings.

Day 9: Nokrek National Park Sightseeing

Today you will be visiting Nokrek National Park which is located about 70 km from Balpakram National Park. Nokrek National Park is home to many rare species of plants and animals such as tigers, leopards, elephants, wild boars, etc. You can also visit Nokrek Biosphere Reserve which offers stunning views of the park and its surroundings.
